Day 6: Christmas quilts and Blankets

Baby its cold outside!!!!

My Texas friends and family have already been hit with snow.

SNOW!

That's pretty funny. Haven't seen any up here yet. Ha ha ha ha ha! (And printing such is pretty much a recipe for a blizzard...so the laugh WILL be on me.)

When its cold, there is nothing better than a nice warm blanket, a cup of hot Chai and a book. Or a good movie.

I love a good blanket!! We have 3 that hubs brought back from Korea. You've seen those mink blankets right? Not the American versions, but the heavy Korean ones? LOVE them! We have three different weights. The heaviest is so heavy I have to take it to a laundrymat to wash it. We've tried to find more like it to give as gifts but have not been successful.

So today's post is in honor of those warm and cozy Christmas blankies!

  1. I love a handmade quilt, but there is something truly magical about a Christmas one. It would be a shame to have something so beautiful and use it only a fraction of the year though.

We haven't seen a hint of snow since that first weekend in October. In fact, yesterday was warm enough that I was outside without a jacket. However, snow is in the forcast for the next three days. Somehow I expect to get hit hard!

  2. I love red and white quilts so much! That color combination is so crisp and cheerful.

My favorite quilt is one that my Grandma made from scraps of her old 60s & 70s clothing. You know those Depression-era farm wives - waste not, want not. She used up EVERYTHING! It's a super-heavy quilt, and though not particularly attractive, I love it best. Maybe it's because I remember her wearing a lot of the clothes that it's made of.

We had snow here Thursday night, though it didn't stick. It did make the roads really treacherous though, because it kept melting and refreezing. Ahhh....winter in the Midwest. Delightful.

  3. I don't know if you ever look at my sister's blog - it links from mine, another Binkley sister blog.... anyway, she is a fabulous quilter and is always posting pics of the ones she makes. She rambles on and on in her blogs, but her creations are pretty cool if you ever just have a desire to see something pretty.

  4. The Xmas trees and the Santa seem to dance around pretty well on the quilt...they look lovely and bright and a wonderful gift idea for Christmas too.
