Yet Another Beach Weekend

That makes three for me this year. Bet that never happens again.

This time I went on a family girls trip.

In June I was talking to my MIL and SIL and we were talking about my trip with my friends. MIL said she couldn't think of anything better than a girls trip.

So I said let's do it.

SIL has a friend with a beach house that would rent to us REAL cheap. Perfect.

We planned on asking all the family ladies but circumstances made that a problem - so in the end it was just the three of us...with plans to expand next year.

This year we headed down to Galveston just the three of us. And there was rocking on the porch....

Walking the downtown historic district and the seawall...

Walks on the beach in daylight

And after dark

And then more walks....

There was also great seafood and a trip out to the campus to spot the memorial brick of a well loved and missed Frymark...

There were fruity drinks, card games, books to read ..

And most importantly lots of laughs to be had.

It was a great start for the first annual Frymark's girls trip.

Looking forward to next year.

Fall Rains

I love the sound of rain.

Well, back up. In a place I love....I love the rain. In a tent camping...I do not.  In a small, crappy house...I do not.

In our new home...I do. Very much.

In this house we have a metal roof. I love the way the rain sounds on this roof. I have been in some that are incredibly loud...not this one. Its a more mellow sound.

You know, you can judge how much I like a house by how I feel when it rains.

If I get uptight and uncomfortable during storms...it say alot about how safe I feel all the time. Our last house I hated when it rained. It was not a good house.

I think we are one day 3 of rain now and I am still loving it.  My yard is overgrown like a jungle and its rather embarrassing but I am so happy to see this rain. Texas is still technically considered in a drought even though it is nothing like two years ago. We need this rain. The ground needs it. The animals need it. Our water supplies need it.

So I'm rejoicing in every drop. And if the temperature hadn't dropped the girls and I could go play in the rain. There is nothing quite like playing in a warm rain.

And rainy days are my favorite reading and napping days. Although the older I get the more the napping overtakes the reading....

We have a couple more days predicted. I will enjoy them while they last.  Hope you are enjoying some beautiful fall weather too.

The rain
I hear it
and it brings a soft smile
just a tilt
on that one side
The dogs hear it to
each looking to me
as if to say
Now?
Oh yes.
Now.
They wag their tails
and glance over their shoulders
to see
Is she following?
Is it Now?
Yes.
It is now.
And the rain
sings to us
as we file down the hall
like ducks
one after another
At the door its a race
which four footed baby
will find their favorite spot first?
A moan and a sigh
As I push and pull bodies and blankets
and we all settle in.
A big sigh
A little sigh
Another crooked smile
As we listen to the rain
and relax
and rearrange the dog pile
So that the rain
Can sing us to sleep
One more time...

A Stupendous Summer

I've been dragging my feet on everything.  Writing, working on the wallpaper...just about everything.

Part of that was just not wanting to let this summer go.

It was a banner summer.

One of those that come around only a few times in a lifetime.

And I did not want to let it go.

So, even with living in a travel trailer, a wrecked vehicle and the money vacuum that was, 4 housing contracts before one actually went all the way through...

Even with all of that it was just the best summer I remember in a long long time.

We are back in Texas - where we hope to stay from this point on.  We are a civilian family -- with employment.   We are finally home owners again. That alone makes it great.

But on top of that....
There was a trip to the beach! So much fun! I hope next time I feel better and get to spend more time out on the sand -- but it was an awesome trip. There is much to be said for a road trip with your friends.
There was a birthday dinner prepared by someone so fabulous even her shoes taste good! Top that.
There was another birthday celebrated with a weekend trip to Dallas with Sushi!! And a cool New York Loft hotel.
There was a cooking night with all kinds of food that all had green chili. Autumn heaven. No way around it.

There was a houseboat birthday celebration out on the lake....where we got to spend the day eating or swimming or lounging or dancing or jet skiing or....hiding in the shade. LOL

There were trips to Ft. Worth to see family.

A trip to Six Flags with cousins we almost never get to see.

A visit from our friends/family from Nebraska.

And to wind it all up...

...the beginning of a new Bible Study with my friends. The same place it all started.

So you see, I've been in denial that summer has actually ended.

But the weather and the falling leaves can no longer be ignored.

Summer is gone.

But not the memories or the fun we had.

And my goal?
Is to top it next year.
